Bakanic, Christian

1980 born in the Austrian province Burgenland. Christian Baka received his first music lessons at the age of seven in the local center Jennersdorf. Since 1994 he lives in Graz, finished music high school in 1999 and studied in the Johann-Joseph-Fux-Conservatory, where he received the certificate for "Teachers for Folkmusic Instruments". He studied accordion with Prof. Janne Rättyä, Prof. James Crabb and Prof. Geir Draugsvoll at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. He collected numerous first prices with accordion competitions (Steir. Accordion competition Grazer Messe, Austrian competitions "Day of the Accordion" etc.). The made the first prize with "Prima la Musica" (in 1997 and 1999) for classical accordion. As a soloist and with the ensembles Folksmilch, Beefolk, Trio Infernal, Mala Junta, Tanguango, Doble B, Bordunikum) he played numerous concerts in Europe, Japan, Argentina, Hong Kong and Iceland.
Cooperation with many different musicians from the most different genres like Wolfgang Muthspiel, Klaus Johns, Miguel Herz-Kestranek, Josef Pichler, Alex Deutsch and Markus Schirmer. During the last few years Christian Bakanic is also active as a composer; he composed for the "Grabenfest of the ÖBV 2006", music for theatre (Bully me, Ein Schaf fürs Leben, Mein Hundemund among others) as well as compositions in the area of Jazz, folk and new music.
